Copper Breaks State Park - West Texas' Best Kept Secret

Sandra and I spent the night at Copper Breaks State Park, about 10 miles south of Quanah, Texas, on September 16-17. A friend from church (Elizabeth Edwards) had recommended it to us, and we were not disappointed! We stayed in our tent in a relatively secluded campsite and enjoyed the cool front that had passed through on Thursday night providing a cooler time for us.

Friday night (the 16th), we ate at the Medicine Mound Depot Cafe, which was excellent. I had the usual (chicken fried steak), and Sandra had a cheeseburger and curley-q, homemade potato chips. Saturday morning, we got up, and after having a breakfast of Yoohoo and pop-tarts for me and fruit punch and granola bar for Sandra, we went on about a 6-mile hike! We were surprised at the variety of beautiful terrain, as you can see in some of the pictures below.

After returning from our hike, we packed up camp and headed back to Wichita Falls with a stop at a Dairy Queen in Chillicothe, Texas.

  • We barely made the 6 miles ourselves. By the end we were starting to see mirages! The blue areas in the first scenic shot are rocks, but you're right it kind of looks like water in the photo. ;)
